Aajeevika is the other name of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) of the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India. 15% of the allocation under Aajeevika is allocated for Skills and Placement Project. The program is under Public-Private Partnership(PPP) mode. The total cost of the project is borne by the Ministry and by the Project Implementing Agency(PIA) or the concerned State Government in a ratio of 75:25. A large population of our country are unemployed and unskilled whereas, there is a high demand for skilled youth in cities and industrial sector.. The PIAs are to track the beneficiaries for a period of one year post placement. 75% of the trainees must be placed. This program will help the rural youths to acquire better skills and will also equip them to work at entry level positions in the g rowing sectors.
Objectives of the project:
The primary objective of the program is 100% coverage of the rural poor in imparting special skills to the rural youth between the age of 18-35 years and assuring them a job after skilling them. It also aims to ensure a time-bound training and capacity building programme delivered by a Project Implementing Agency (PIA) for bringing a specific number of Below Poverty Line (BPL) families to Above Poverty Line (APL) through job placement and ensuring regular wage employment
Special Projects in Meghalaya
At present Meghalaya have five Projects under Skills and Placement which is being implemented by four Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs) in 15 centres across 7 districts. These PIAs are as below:
The main trades undertaken by the above mentioned PIAs in the state of Meghalaya are; Housekeeping, Automobile mechanic, Retail Sales, BPO and Call Centre welding, sales and marketing, Hospitality(H), Hospitality-cookery, ISMO, Hospitality (F&B), Security& Trade sector.
